Dr. LeAnn A. Chavez, MD, MBA, FACS, serves as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Vascular Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the University of New Mexico. A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Chavez finds fulfillment in her decision to return to her hometown. She is an alumna of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, having completed her general surgery residency at the University of Arizona followed by a vascular fellowship at the University of California, Davis. Her academic pursuits and research interests center around community outreach-based education, clinical outreach services, and clinical improvement projects.
Dr. Chavez is a graduate of the SVS Leadership Development Program 2021 cohort, with aspirations to expand her leadership within healthcare organizations in New Mexico. In 2023, she earned her MBA, a credential that complements her commitment to advancing healthcare access and quality. Actively engaged in professional committees aligned with the mission of expanding services to underserved populations, Dr. Chavez draws from her varied experiences across diverse hospital organizations to advocate for healthcare equity.
