Ian Loftus was trained as an academic vascular surgeon in Leicester and moved to St George’s, London to help develop a regional vascular surgery programme. He is now the Professor of Vascular Surgery at St George’s, University of London. His main clinical specialist interest is the endovascular management of complex aortic conditions.
He is the current President of the European Society of Vascular Surgery and Past-President of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland and the British Society for Endovascular Therapy. Current national roles within the UK include: Chair of the of the UK National Vascular Registry Project Board, Deputy-Chair of the National Clinical Reference Group for vascular surgery, Council member and Caldicott Guardian of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Chair of the Royal College of Surgeons Research Board.
He has published over 250 papers, and runs a clinical research programme at St George’s. He is co-author of the 2018 European Society Guidelines for the management of aortic aneurysms, forthcoming guidelines on the management of thoracic aortic aneurysms, and co-editor of the Companion to Specialist Surgical Practice, ‘Vascular and Endovascular Surgery’.
