Michael S. Conte, M.D. is Professor and Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center, and holds the E.J Wylie Chair in Vascular Surgery. He serves as Co-Director of the UCSF Heart and Vascular Center. A native New Yorker, Dr. Conte attended medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed surgical residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. He completed vascular surgery fellowship at Brigham and Womens’ Hospital (BWH)/Harvard Medical School in Boston. He served on the faculty of Yale School of Medicine for 3 years, then at BWH for 11 years before moving west to his current role at UCSF in 2008.

Dr. Conte is a career surgeon-scientist with research focus in peripheral artery disease (PAD) and vascular healing. His research has been funded by NIH for >20 years. He has played a leadership role in clinical trials. He has authored >300 peer-reviewed publications and has led international practice guidelines for PAD. His clinical area of expertise is in advanced limb salvage and diabetic vascular disease. Dr. Conte is past president of the Western Vascular Society and past Chair of the AHA Council on Peripheral Vascular Diseases. He serves as Chief Medical Officer of the non-profit foundation Vascular Cures. Dr. Conte and his wife Kathy live in Hillsborough, CA and have three children.
