Surgical Resident
Bay Shore, New York
I’ll just start off by saying I do not have the typical background of a surgical resident in the United States. I am a Bahamian native, born and raised in the beautiful islands of The Bahamas and currently a general surgery resident at Northwell Health; South Shore University Hospital and Peconic Bay Medical Center in Long Island, NY. Growing up on a small island with only 55,000 people, I was one of the rare few to pursue medical training. After I completed my undergraduate studies in The Bahamas and medical school in Jamaica, I then decided to pursue surgical training with interests in General & Cardiothoracic Surgery. I completed an internship in The Bahamas and three years of surgical training before entering training in America. During that time in The Bahamas, I completed a post-graduate general surgery diploma in the United Kingdom earning my formal Membership of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Scotland (MRCS). I also was lucky enough to attend many international conferences in the USA which further sparked my interest in research and surgical training abroad.
After applying and matching, I completed an intern year of general surgery training in Atlanta, Georgia before transitioning to Long Island, New York where I am a resident at South Shore University Hospital's General Surgery Residency Program. I have a strong interest in medical education and I intend to master my craft before eventually giving back to my country and introducing new surgical innovations to The Bahamas.
