Dr. Diane Treat-Jacobson is Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the School of Nursing at the
University of Minnesota and the Cora Meidl Siehl Chair in Nursing Research to Improve Care. She
received her BSN from Georgetown University, her MS in Nursing from, the University of Maryland at
Baltimore, and her PhD, from the University of Minnesota. Her program of research is focused on three
areas: promotion of increased awareness about peripheral artery disease (PAD), improvement in care of
patients with PAD, and development of better outcome assessment measures to evaluate these
patients. She is recognized as a national and international expert in the development and
implementation of exercise interventions for patients with claudication from PAD. Her scholarship has
consisted of both traditional randomized clinical trials and implementation of supervised exercise
therapy in the clinical setting.
She has received external funding from the American Heart Association, the National Heart Lung and
Blood Institute, and most recently, the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation. She served as Chair of the writing
groups for the 2019 American Heart Association Scientific Statement: Optimal Exercise Programs for
Patients with Peripheral Artery Disease and the American Heart Association Science Advisory:
Implementation of Supervised Exercise Therapy for Patients with Symptomatic Peripheral Artery
Disease.
