Dr. Mitchell is Tenured Professor of Surgery and Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, and Department of Surgery Vice-Chair for Academic Affairs at the University of Tennessee Health and Sciences Center in Memphis, TN. Dr. Mitchell is a practicing vascular surgeon, and the Medical Director of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, at Regional One Health, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, and St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. She is board certified in both general and vascular surgery and completed a fellowship in Vascular Interventional Radiology. She also holds a Masters in Surgical Education from the Imperial College of London.
He practice focuses on the management of adult and pediatric vascular trauma, critical limb threatening ischemia, aortic pathologies, carotid disease, and visceral artery ischemic conditions. Her research focuses on vascular trauma, pediatric vascular surgical conditions, and the impact of healthcare disparities on trauma and CTLI.
She has served on the ABS VSB, ACS Board of Governors, and APDVS Council, and currently holds leadership positions at UTHSC, ROH, Society for Vascular Surgery, and the SCVS. Her EdM work underpins the ABS-VSB and the ACGME Vascular Surgical Milestones with these milestones proving predictive for patient outcomes post residency. Current work includes development of EPAs with the ABS-VSB and APDVS EPAs Advisory Group. To date, she has co-authored two vascular surgical text books and 100+ peer-reviewed articles, and given 150+ podium presentations.
Hobbies include travelling, cooking, and painting. She enjoys her home in Memphis with her husband Jon, a world-renowned fly-fisherman, and their Norwich’s.
