Sadia Ilyas, MD, is an assistant professor at Georgetown University. She is a vascular surgeon at MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute. As a vascular surgeon who is also fellowship trained in surgical critical care, Dr. Ilyas manages and treats the entire spectrum of vascular surgery. As a trained surgical and cardiovascular surgical intensivist, she spends part of her time taking care of patients in the CVICU.
Dr. Ilyas’ research interests include looking at how physicians deliver complex vascular surgery care in a multifaceted socioeconomic context, regarding issues such as healthcare disparities. One of her goals is to improve access to all available and cutting edge technology in vascular surgery universally for patients. She was selected as a MedStar Research Scholar to further these efforts.
Dr. Ilyas received her medical degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. She completed her general surgery residency at Wright State University–Boonshoft School of Medicine. During that time she was selected to be a clinical and research fellow at the National Institutes of Health, Surgery Branch where she stayed for four years focusing on basic science research and translational clinical trials. After that, she completed her surgical critical care fellowship at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and her vascular surgery fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
