Dr. Lawrence graduated from Dartmouth College and was awarded his M.D. degree with honors from Harvard Medical School. His surgical residency and vascular fellowship were done at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. In 1978 he joined the University of Utah where he served as Chief of Surgery at the Veterans Administration Hospital and Chief of Vascular Surgery. He moved to UC Irvine in 1998 to become the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Vice President for Specialty Services. In 2003 he moved to UCLA to become the Chief of Vascular Surgery and Director of the Gonda Vascular Center. He has published over 200 articles, editorials, and book chapters and has conducted NIH and VA sponsored research related to aneurysms, limb salvage, and venous disease, and is the founder of the Vascular Low Frequency Disease Consotrium. He has been on the editorial boards of numerous vascular journals, and he is currently the senior editor of the Journal of Vascular Surgery, the Journal of Vascular Surgery-Venous and Lymphatic Deseases, and the Journal of Vascular Surgery-Innovative Techniques and Case Reports. Dr. Lawrence has actively participated in numerous regional and national professional organizations, including serving as president of the Association for Surgical Education, Rocky Mountain Vascular Surgery Society, Western Vascular Society, Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and Society for Vascular Surgery. He is currenlty chair of the SVS Foundation.
