Dr. Chelsea Dorsey (@MdDorsey), is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Section of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at the University of Chicago Medicine. She serves as the Associate Dean for Medical Student Academic Advising and Advancement at the Pritzker School of Medicine and Vice-Chair in the Department of Surgery. After earning her medical degree from the University of Chicago, she completed a vascular surgery integrated residency at Stanford University and returned to the University of Chicago as faculty. Dr. Dorsey is the Ambulatory Medical Director of Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic Surgery and Director of the UChicago Vein Clinic where she focuses on venous conditions utilizing treatment algorithms involving medical management, minimally invasive interventions, and open surgery. Her research interests include workforce diversity in surgery, microaggressions in the surgical environment, and medical student curriculum reform in vascular surgery.
She was recognized as a Distinguished Faculty Member in Diversity and Inclusion and was also inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators at the University of Chicago, both in 2021 and was recently inducted as faculty into AOA. She was also recognized nationally as one of the “40 under 40” women surgeons from the Association of Women Surgeons in 2022 and also made the prestigious Chicago Crain’s “40 under 40” list in 2023 which recognizes promising leaders across disciplines. A committed educator and mentor, Dr. Dorsey regularly teaches, advises, and mentors learners at all levels with the hope of having an impact and supporting the next generation of medical professionals.
